Marianna,
I think you have been a wonderful, wonderful example to your children and taught them very sensible ways of making decisions. Hmm yes I am really a Mormon! No I'm not kidding. Argh, am I banned from the board now? Just kidding... I was raised in a "normal" home though - and myself went on a spout of drinking and drugs and other nasty things before I just had enough of feeling empty all the time. After not really finding what I was after in other churches, I met two missionaries one day from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who made complete sense to me and could answer all of my questions to my satisfaction.
I worry about my children also and what they have to go through in this life - I hope I do half as good a job as you in raising them!

Kelly, I am not a perfect parent either, as nobody is. We all make mistakes somewhere. We were just lucky to grow up in a small town where there was not much violence, no drugs and no alcohol abuse among young people. We had lots of fun without mood altering remedies - we had a big group of friends and the group was together always: we went swimming an had BBQ on the beach, we went camping, travelling, dancing, bike tours, in winter time we went ice skating and skiing ect. There was absolutely no need for alcohol or drugs to ruin our fun. We just passed on our vaules to our children the best we could, that's all.

As about you being a Mormon - why would anybody judge you for that? My son is actually very good friends with a group of Mormons at the uni. I am glad he is with them they are not telling him anything wrong. I believe that every religion is good as long as it is about love and tolerance and healthy ligestyle.

I was born Catholic, hated religion and religious people with passion for 33 years - I was furious when Christian children tried to talk about Jesus to my kids...and the time came when I found Jesus in my heart, and I do not care about different religious groups any more: I cannot say I am this or that, because I like to go to every church , to Baptist, Wesley church, Church of Christ, Anglican ect. There is only one God for me and I believe all the different religious groups are just there to divide people, they all believe in the same God being Mormons, Baptists, Anglicans or whatever.

I have a very strong faith so have my kids, but our faith is not something we live in churches, or behaviour that we force on ourselves - it's rather our lifestyle and values. My faith gives me that feeling of safety - that the biggest power of the world protects our family, that everything that happens to us has a reason and purpose and that I will not be given anything too hard that I could not cope with.
