Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums and am anxious to talk w/you all. I'm a dog owner and have been for 10 years. I'm looking to add a feline companion to the mix. I think my dog would welcome a furry friend, but we'll see. I'd love your advice on where to look for one. We'll see. I'm hoping to get a rescue cat or kitten.

I think that is great that you are getting a new kitty and from the shelter.

First, never buy from a pet store. 99% of them buy there animals from puppy mills (or cat mills). The animals have been abused, cramped, ill. Most will have problems or die. Second, since you've never had a cat, you may want to go talk to your local shelter. They can advise you whether you would be better with a kitten or a cat, male or female. Also, it's usually a good idea to get two so they can keep each other company. This might be a little daunting for you since you don't have much experience with cats, but two really are just as easy as one.

abel, good stuff.

I have owned more dogs. but around 10 months back I rescued a Manx kitten from pound, love her she has some dog like habits, but seems smarter. when I need to go away I leave her with my vet, just have to book in. the vet loves her too & told me she has no fear of dogs, where or not this would be good for a dog owner or not I could not say. but I have noticed, when she see's a dog she just watches them & seems to take a stance ready to jump at them ( I keep her in side and she rides in my ute everywhere. all I do is show her the keys she will run down stairs get into her cat carrier ready to go, she sits on top of cat carrier when I park the ute, a lot of people come up ask me about her and say she is beautiful. just thought I'd say but lots of friends keep dogs & cats.
