Hi all,
Need advice (again). I have purchased Squirtle a $40 heated cave as the weather is turning cold and I would hate him to get cold overnight. He has shown no interest in the bed - preferring all his other choices (yes, he has way too many). He likes the bean bag, his igloo, his crate and his 'special' blanket. Have I wasted my money or is there a chance he may use it in the future? Is there any way to encourage him to use it other than try and force him into it - which I don't want to do? I have tried a bit of cap nip - no luck. All else fails I will sell it. Thanks |

Perhaps take away some of his other choices, or just leave it out and wait for him to discover it.

Definitely remove some of the other things he has. Then leave it on once you've gone to bed or off to work in the morning. I bet he'll find that heat source in no time.
My Bean decided that the foxtel box was an ideal place to lie because of the warmth it gave off. A week's worth of us not being able to change the channel was enough to make sure I have a nice and cozy fire burning at a reasonable time each night now. |

Should encourage him to do something he didn't try it.

Well, after a month of trying everything Squirtle will not use his cat cave. He does, though, like the flat heated mattress (which I actually purchased for the dog!).
One win for the cat, one loss for his owner! |

Yup that's cats fpr ya ..but sometimes they come around ..what if you sit it in a sunny spot..you could just leave it off at first ..see if the sun makes a difference ..
I have one of those Sensit toys s shaped with a ping pong ball in it ..been here for 6 months ..nobody out of 5 cats bothered with it ..a few weeks ago I woke up to the sound of the little ball rolling back and forth ..and my devon was thrilled with it ..go figure?? -------------------- I could be unstoppable if I could just get started.

i am sure some other cat will be thrilled when his/her owner purchases a nice heated cat cave from ebay!!
Obviously my cat is no different to anyone elses - has a mind of his own and only does what he wants when he wants!!! So very different to my two dogs. He has attitude with a captial "A" - he really is funny, affectionate, absolutely gorgeous BUT very single minded, independent and bloody well stubborn! He walks around like he truly is important and he believes we are so lucky to own him!! Hilarious. I laugh at how he attempts to bite me when I pick him up at bed time as he doesnt want to go to bed. I don't take him too seriously as i reckon if he really wanted to bite me he would have done so by now. So far a "uh uh" has stopped him but we go through the same process every single night. The dogs wouldn't dare do the same thing ......... |

You could consider donating the unwanted bed to a rescue group, it would be great for keeping orphan rescued babies warm :)

Agree. And guess what? I am one of those people who care for orphaned animals. Problem with the bed is there is no indication of how hot it actually gets. Meaning a baby could either be cooked or die from cold. Have thought about using a thermometer probe to see temp but again another inaccurate science. Then there is the cleaning problem ................... The list goes on and on. Better to sell it and use the money to buy equipment more suitable to true orphans.

I bought my cat a heated bed but it seems like he doesn't want to sleep there. What can I do to make him sleep on the one that I bought.

Squirtle, it could be the style. Your kitty may not like sleeping in a cave. Look at different types of beds.
Heated cat beds are 102 degrees, a cat's body temperature. -------------------- Life is incomplete until you have a cat.
