i recently bought a blue abyssinian who is 4 (retired queen)and my mum is complaining that my room and laundry stinks because of her (i can't smell it) because when we first bought her i had her litter box and food and stuff in my room so that she could bond with me, i moved them to the laundry a week later and mum says that it stinks in there too, i sprinkle baking soda on top of her litter everytime i clean it out and clean it with bleach once a week. but apparently it still stinks! please help!!
p.s. we use breeder's choice paper pellets litter and a two tier litter box. Jezebel's been using breeder's choice ever since she was born. |

The Whiskas you are feeding won't be helping with the smell.
I personally don't like Breeders Choice and find it smells as soon as the cats wet on it, so we use Oz Pet. |

I tried Breeders Choice for awhile and I hated it. I used it all the time when I had rats and loved it for use with them but I found with the cats and the volume of urine, it takes no time at all to get smelly.
I tried lots of different litters and for a long time used crystals. Only problem with those was the cost (got pretty expensive once we got our third cat). Oh and the fact there was so much creating landfill every time I changed it over bothered me a bit too. I was recommended Oz Pet by some people on this forum and I absolutely love it. Yeah, the initial cost of the litter tray is expensive but it's so worth it. The money I'm saving on litter is amazing. You can also get the Oz Pet trays online for a lot cheaper than they retail for in shops. As Chocolate Dots said, the quality of food does affect the smell (and size) of their poops. I still find that in order for no smell, I have to scoop everytime they poop but that's fine with me when there's no odour once I've scooped. -------------------- |

ditto what has been said - the Whiskas makes the poop stink, and the Breeders Chpice does smell like soggy newspaper unless you get rid of anything the minute they do it. Ozpet is way superior IMO, and really cuts on smell, and Royal Canin does make an indoor cat dry food that also helps eliminate odour smell too

Thanks everyone! So I've heard a lot about this ozpet stuff. Does anyone know where to get it and how much it is?

I'd recommend buying a tray online - you can Google Oz Pets. They have an official website or you can also buy the trays from other websites. As for the actual litter, Pet Barn sells it. So does a pet store near me called Stefmar.

I use breeders choice for my rats, I've never used it for the cats.
I have my litter trays in the laundry With the window open 24/7 and I scoop out the poo as soon they do it. I clean out the litter trays once a week and clean them with vinegar and water and let it dry in the sun -------------------- Cats - Kazran (Grey & White DMH), Panda (Torti Ragdoll X) Dog - Taj (Pomeranian X) Cockatiel - Alfie (Lutino) + 8 Rats <3 |

Oz pet is a good choice but MY fave is Natty Cat ..it is a lucerne based pellet, the chlorophyll keeps the smell down and it doesn't need changing as often ..I don't remove wet patches as the urine soaks down, but I DO remove poos..
It's available at rural buying places ,anywhere that sells horse feed should have it..20 kg costs $23 and lasts my 5 cats for 5 or 6 weeks .. -------------------- I could be unstoppable if I could just get started.

I get it from a supplier than home deliver (listed as Tercat on the suppliers list), but you can also buy it from Aberfoyle pet supplies if you live that way.
Cost is around $22 for 15kg. The tray you probably got from Anne might work, but I think the holes are smaller than an Ozpet tray. Probably fine enough for you to try out the litter with though. |
