Hi Anika, despite the widely held belief that cats don't have any uses, it really is true that they keep the population of rodents etc down to manageable limits of course. The only mouse I've ever found in my home is a dead one. I found it under a piece of furniture, it was flat, mummified and had obviously been attacked by a cat. Poor mousie, but better a dead mouse inside the house than live ones, and at least it was killed in a "natural" way, kind of.
I found out much later that both my neighbours (I own the middle villa in a complex of three) have mice in their kitchen cupboards from time to time and put out traps and poison - a much more unpleasant way to die I would imagine. |

I went to a shelter thinking i would like another cat but just have a browse for now, and was chosen
by this small ginger fluff-ball who jumped off the top of the cages, parked himself on my shoulder and wouldn't move. Was told by the shelter people that I had a cat whether I liked it or not. Have heard of instant bonding but this was ridiculous. He is my best buddy although a real handful. |

I got my Tortie from a wonderful group that rescue cats from the pound and foster them until they find them their forever home.
My Selkirk Rex came all the way from the west coast, I live on the east coast. -------------------- To err is human, to purr is feline.

I feel like I need to add to this now (see Old Tom's post previously in this thread for the rest of the crew).
Zayenah Quixote Malachai came to me after a much agonised over decision from his breeder (Chocolatedots here) to not use him in her breeding program - she messaged me and asked if I would be interested in him - you bet I was! I'd been on the waiting list for a show perfect kitten since becoming involved with a cat club and deciding in March that I needed a cat to take along with me to the shows... Four months later and here he is! |

All of mine cats were saved. I feel really good about doing this? How did you aquire all of your cats? Hi Itsme, It was a joint decision of my husband and I to deliberately choose our cats from the local pound/shelter. Our decision had been decided for a few years. It has taken a long time for us to be able to adopt due to living internationally for a long time and then venturing back to Australia to live. Personally, I have NO regrets adopting the two cats. It was not their breed that mattered to me the most, it was SAVING their life that was the most important. Nothing more horrible than a person working at the pound telling me that a particular cat I chose had her life hanging on a string. He said my cat's life "is nearly up"- "her time is nearly up" - and that clinched it for me. I thought why should a cat of only 8-10 months old be put to sleep? Like you, I too feel very satisfied that I have invested in these two cats lives. They now have a loving, comfortable, secure and fun home to enjoy! Taking on the responsibility of adopting a pound/shelter cat is huge. I take it seriously. I understand it is not for everyone. But it is very rewarding knowing that lives are saved. |

I found mine wondering across the road when he was just 3 months old and he nearly got hit by a car. I took him home and put posters all over my suburb hoping to find his owner. I went knocking on peoples doors in my street, but nobody had lost a cat. 2 weeks later I had grown on Tom-Tom (or better known then as, *facepalm*, Grumpy.)
I went looking once again because I knew it was the right thing to do. I saw a lady putting her bins out and decided to ask her since i never caught her at home. She said she had lost a cat and I asked her the description (as you do when you find someones belongings) She said an un-desexed male ginger and white kitten, 3 months old. I finally found his owner! I was a bit sad since i had grown on him. I told her where i lived and she said she'd pick him up. Half an hour later the dog started barking and i knew she was walking up our driveway. We saw her carrying his bed, toys and food up our driveway, I was wondering why. She said "Look, I can't keep him. I work all day and sleep all night I have no time to spend with him". I felt like charlie bucket at that moment, being handed the chocolate factory and little *ahem* orange men. :D And I've had him for 5 years now. -------------------- Tom-Tom

I got my Penny from a breeder down in Melbourne. I actually drove all the way down to melbourne (from canberra) to get her! I would have preferred to have her flown up, but the breeder insisted that she didnt like the idea of Penny being all alone with lots of strange noises on the plane.. I personally thought well an hour of that is better compared to 8 hours in a car.. but still, i just wanted her so i drove anyway. On the upside though, Penny appears to be the kind of cat that loves being in the car.... which makes vet trips, and holidays very easy! Trip was worth every effort and then some, as the result is the best little cat in the whole wide world! :)

So glad that she left him with you instead of taking him back to a lonely house. Yay for Tom-Tom! |
