I'm wanting to move over to an environmentally friendly litter but my budget is tight. I've seen a few sites on the net where people grind wheat grain to use. Has anyone tried this?

No,  I use the wood pallets which I find the most economical & easiest to use once you have the right trays (which is where the expense is)

Thanks for replying Muffy. I love the smell of wood pellets and the fact that they are environmentally friendly. When I first got my oldest cat I tried this, she wouldn't use it.

We use wood pellets and the purpose made trays too, with a number of cats it's the most economical along with the other benefits of covering odour, no tracking, safe for kittens.

Perhaps try mixing the litter to begin with to transition your girl over, adding more wood pellets to the other litter until you're completely switched.

It's certainly worth a try, perhaps now that she's no longer a kitten her paws won't be so sensitive. Thank you both.

See if the shops near you sell wood litterbox filling. These pellets are made from sawdust and are fully bio-degradable; you can toss the entire litterbox contents into the green bin
