I really love pets and I’ve being interested in animal all my life ! I have 2 dogs : T-bone & Rex and a cat for the last 2 years who’s name is Robert. lately Robert has been having worms, (is it possible that he got it from the neighbor’s dog or other dogs and cats???) I want to the vet and he gave me some de-worming pills for him. I tried to crumble the tablet into his food but he notice it right away. I tried wrapping it with some sausage but he refuse to swallow it . I even tried using force but Robert kept scratching and twirling!!! what can I do ?? Elizabeth |

Hi,
Wrapping him tightly in a towel might help to hold him until you can get the worm tablet in. There's another way you can try. Stand behind him (I prefer to sit cross legged and hold them with my legs so they can't back away) and coming from behind, place your thumb and forefinger at the back of his jaw and pull upwards, this should open his mouth. Drop the tablet at the back of his tongue in the middle and if necessary give it a little push with your finger. Hold his mouth closed, slowly let go and if you see him chewing, close his mouth again and gently blow on his face (this causes them to swallow) If you're successful, make sure you give him a treat from your hand. If you can't do it, take him back to the vet and have the vet nurse assist you, they will usually do it free of charge. |
