Hi Everyone
I am a total newbie to the forums, having just found them today while I was browsing the net and hope it is not to cheeky to ask your advice on my cats. Just last Wednesday I adopted 3 cats from the SPCA and when I went to pick them up was informed that there had been an outbreak of the snuffles in the cattery though so far my 3 cats had shown no sign of any symptoms phew! Off course as soon as I get them home one of the cats starts to have sneezing fits though otherwise seems ok in himself, by the end of the next day he is sneezing a lot, has runny eyes, off food etc so i phone the SPCA first thing Friday and they say to bring him in as the vet was about, the vet checks him out and is given some antibiotics. Everything seemed fine and over the next couple of days he really seemed to improve and I thought great, but then the last couple of days he has started sneezing a lot more again and his eyes are watering a little bit again, he sounds wheezy and when he sneezes the discharge that is spraying out has blood in it, I am looking after him, keeping him warm, making sure he has fresh water and eats a little food at least and bathing his eyes and nose etc and am still giving him his antibiotics. What I wanted to ask was is this normal with the snuffles that it seems to improve and then get worse again and is sneezing blood quite common? Also are there any tips anyone has about how to make him more comfortable as I just want to make sure he is as comfy and happy as possible given his circumstances the poor thing. Also one of the other cats came to us a bit out of sorts and was throwing up a lot the first couple of days but was put down to the stress of the move, then over the weekend she started weeing in my sons room and a few other places and then we noticed her looking like she was trying to go to toilet just about anywhere but only a drop of wee coming out which progressively changed color over the weekend from yellow to red, took her to the vet first thing Monday and he thinks she had a urinary infection so she was given anti biotics which she has been taking since Monday and doesnt seem to be straining to wee as much but she is still just stopping anywhere and going/trying to go on the floor and very rarely tries to use the litter tray. From anyones experience do cats go back to using the tray once the urinary infection has cleared up or is that her just weeing anywhere she likes from now on? If so what are peoples best tips for getting her back into the litter box, it will only be a few more days before they can start going outside but as we dont have a catflap in the house at the moment I would be much happier at least knowing if she was inside and had to go she would head to the litter tray rather than any corner! Oops sorry for the length of the post |

Geez ..tough start for them and you!
The cat with a urinary infection first ..if she was litter trained before ..usually once the infection is cleared up will go back to the litter ..but you MUST clean the spots she's used with an enzyme cleaner ..I recommend Biozet laundry powder ..cheap as . If she doesn't you will need to retrain her ..like keep her in a room as if she was new with her litter and food etc. The cat flu is probably exacerbated by the stress of moving, but I'd ring the vet just in case they need to change the antibiotics ... To ease the strain I'd put rescue remedy in their water bowls ..it may help with the transition and wont hurt with the antibiotics. -------------------- I could be unstoppable if I could just get started.
