Hi,
I am about to buy a kitten for the first time from someone who I thought was a registered breeder. Now it turns out they don't even offer a pedigree certificate for the cat. I am uncertain of what to do next. I have paid the deposit fee and am due to pick up the kitten in four weeks. Should i ask for a refund? Or is it worth taking a risk? They seem to have the cat's best health in mind guaranteeing a vaccination and a microchip. |

Not all Registered Breeders Register every individual kitten. I dont for a variety of reasons, including the need to save some of the 'good names' for show and breeding cats. I do however provide a copy of the pedigree to all kitten purchasers.
You are within your rights to ask them who they are Registered with, and what their prefix is so you can independently check for yourself. -------------------- Hugs and Kitty Kisses, Terri-Ann xxx When God Created the Ragdoll Cat....He was Just Showing Off!! Thanks for your comment, but they are not a registered breeder at all and they don't show their cats. I am worried there may be some cross breeding and I may not get a 'proper' ragdoll.

Just out of curiousity.. how much does non-registered breeder wants for her "pedigree" kitten? It would be only fair if you decide to go ahead with the purchase to make sure that you aren't at least paying same much as you'd pay to a respectable breeder that you can relay on for a number of reasons...

Felina,
If you are unsure of the kitten, then you still have time to back out of it and tell them that you are backing out due to X Y Z concerns. You may not receive your money back tho unless you are willing to go to small claims. only you can make the right decision for you good luck -------------------- Hugs and Kitty Kisses, Terri-Ann xxx When God Created the Ragdoll Cat....He was Just Showing Off!! I am paying $600 for a female. Is this about right for a pet ragdoll?

For my Ragdoll kittens I charge $600 for a desexed, microchipped and vaccinated (and guaranteed) kitten.

I don't know which area you're from, but that sounds steep to me. You don't say whether she'll be desexed or not, I'm assuming she won't be. For that price I'd be wanting her desexed and with papers. Just my opinion. If you search most breeders sites and compare prices you'll find most of them are in the area of $500 to $650. Most, if not all of these, are desexed and have papers.

Well if the breeder isn't registered (btw, you can always ask her about it) $600 for a kitten with no papers (copy of pedigree) not disexed and microchiped, probably not even tested etc, sounds a bit too much...
BTW, my ex-boyfriend bought my first kitten (balinese) for me from a breeder alike for only $120 which was very reasonable when I found out that registered balinese pet kittens are around $500-700 -------------------- ![]() k i s s k a |

Dear all,
thanks for your advice. I thought I'd let you know that I didn't take the unregistered kittens in the end. There were just too many dodgy things about the people who were selling them. I have been in contact with a registered breeder who is offering me two (pedigree) kittens - one of them a lilac! Thanks again for your advice. |

Hi
I think you did the right thing and I hope you have many years of happiness with the new kittens. This is exactly why we have to stop the selling of BYB kittens and puppies. To charge that price for a kitten without papers, desexing and chipping is a disgrace. they are only in it for the money and although they may care for the kittens they sound like they care more for the $$$. Hope the babies found good homes. |
