One thing for certain... no more cats for me. We only have Gabby now and she drives me to distraction!!!! She was always a full-on cat but since Tabitha our 17 year old burmese died recently she has become full-on and then some more.
Her vocalisations have increased to fever point. When I get home from work she talks non stop for up to half an hour. She will always have the last word... even if you whisper your last word in another room. She hears you and replies. She follows me around like a siamese twin not a siamese cat, but not at floor level. Oh no not Gabby... she has to get at face level which involves jumping on any number of high surfaces, many of them not stable enough to support a 6 kilo cat and which can result in many crash landings. I cannot open a door, be it cupboard, wardrobe, car or fridge without her jumping in with a loud meow. She won't come out until he has stomped on and done damage to as many things as she can. I have a little glass cupboard for my lovely pottery cats. I guard it vigilantly, only opening it when I know Gabbus is fast asleep. But, she knows the click of that cupboard when it opens and is there in an instant. I pretend that I have no interest in my pottery cats but she doesn't go away. She may close her eyes and pretend to be very sleepy but if I were to open that door she would be in there in a nano second causing catostrophic damage to pottery cats. She does not spare me at night time either. She walks over my body from top to bottom as I lay sleeping in bed at night. Each one of her steps has a meow attached to it. When she reaches the top she purrs loudly in my ear. She does this at least sixteen times a night. She anticipates my every move and darts in front of me at lightening speed and has caused me to fall over twice now. She is obsessed with the mirror in the family room. I think she thinks it is a closed window to another room which she desperately wants to get into. She meows and paws at it trying to get in. Bed making requires the patience of a saint. She actively tries to be imprisoned under the fitted sheet and hopes you won't discover her until the rest of the bed is made. If we have the audacity to ignore her and watch TV instead she will walk up and down in front of the screen and then threaten to jump on top of the TV. Well that's not a wise move trying to jump up on a plasma screen, and yeah.. she gets our attention. She's become such a brat!!!!!!! She's 13 years old for chrissake... when is she going to settle down??? LOL. |

Oh Zoe, what a problem child. Is she perhaps missing Tabitha? Does she pay any attention to Spooky & maybe gain some stimulation there? She sounds bored which is most unusual for a cat her age. Good luck with her. Stella can be fairly full on if she wants attention but nothing like that & she isn't 2 yet.

I can see how it would be a problem. Blossom is a silent cat so I enjoy seeing my mum's cat, once ours, to have a conversation with. She will always answer back.

Yes, Joy, she did miss Tabitha after she died but surely she's over that by now. She does play chaseys with Spooky occasionally but most of the time she avoids her.
Don't get me wrong. We love Gab to pieces and most of the time just laugh at her antics. She's always been a vocal cat, hence her being named Gabby. |

You would think she would be over Tabitha's death by now, but you never know., especially with her being a Siamese. They are very sensitive.

LOL... I think Gabby thinks the reflection is another cat.. and she is looking for it behind the mirror!!!! Yes, that would be very frustrating...I think that of budgies with mirrors. How annoying the be trying to communicate with someone and they just keep copying your actions...! This sounds like very siamese behaviour, I've never had a siamese. They're always very active aren't they? Oh....I'm new here, so hi! |

I can sympathise with the naughties breaking things, talking and tripping over their slaves!
Mum's cat is a moggie (tortoiseshell I think??) and she NEVER SHUTS UP. Her mum was the same. She somehow manages to stomp each footfall, so it echoes through the house, and she marches up and down the halls every night. She's also a clutz, and face-plants anything she tries to jump onto. My cat (another moggie, but looks like a Korat) is more of an expert at the 'breaking stuff' category. We have a tile floor, and lots of glass things on shelves... I wake up at ungodly hours, faced with a cat walking through broken glass, and wondering what to do first: put on shoes, rescue the naughty one, or start sweeping. Nice to know there are other suffering Mums and Dads out there. |

The solution is to get Gabby her own cat :)

Sounds like she is exploring her new role as "only" cat in the household. Missing her buddy too I'm sure is part of it.

My cats are 15 and 13 years old, and this is what I worry about too, when one of them goes, the other will grieve. Like humans in a way.
Speaking of tortiseshell cats, one of mine is, and she too is VERY vocal. |
