Hi,
I did a few searches, but I could not find anything to do with cats and allergies that wasn't about people being allergic to cats. I am wondering what foods cats themselves are allergic to or potentially allergic to. I have a new kitten, (14 weeks today), and every time he has something containing tomato, he starts coughing. It begins about 1-2 hours after ingesting the tomato. He will cough anywhere between 15-40 times in a row. He does it approximately once every 1-2 hours for up to 12 hours after eating. I've obviously stopped feeding/making him anything containing tomato, but I did do the test again yesterday morning. I have fed him nothing but cooked chicken and biscuits for a week, then gave him a small amount of tomato. 1 hour later on cue, coughing. Again, nearly 24 hours later he has stopped coughing. Apart from the coughing, he is still full of beans and does not seem off colour in any way. Is this normal to cats or is it just like human allergies, in that it can be cat specific rather than species specific? Any comments are most appreciated :) Terri -------------------- My other love - Seahorses!

Sorry. I know of allergies that cats have t6o grasses etc, so I would assume that food allergies are more common than we realise.

I did not see your post but would not have known what to say if I had replied.
I think your detective work is telling you your kitten has an intolerance at the very least....simple solution discovered by you as well.....good work. BTW it is a beautiful kitten. -------------------- Heather Sharada Birmans

My cat is allergic to chicken and any food that contains it. She gets an upset stomach.
