Hello!
Long time no post! I have since adopted a goofy, noisy, spoilt Persian as well as Hector, my other cat. They get along ace and are always tearing around knocking things flying. However, Rufus, The persian is one now and not coping at all with the summer heat in melbourne (such as it is at the moment!) so I was looking for somewhere to groom him, I am in Caulfield, aware a few vets do it, however I don't want him overly sedated as he's really good in the bath and lets me go over him with the brush and all without a problem, so i'd rather not have him zonked all day! Can anyone reccomend someone really good, who really knows their stuff? Also, this is a side note, he's regularly wormed and flea treated, goes outside to sun and comes back in, doesn't have contact with other cats etc etc, however his littler box is like the pearl harbour of cat poop. It's foul smelling, not solid and sometimes has bits of blood in it. This has been a consistent thing since he was pretty little, it does come and go, their food doesn't change, they're raw fed and have evo for breakie, and it's as directed, so not overfed (despite having little kitty paunches) I've been meaning to go to the vet but every time they're due for a visit he has a miraculously solid movement and makes me look silly! Anyone have any ideas what I could do to minimise this or what it may be? I live in a one bedroom flat with the bathroom off my bedroom, I am not exaggerating when I say if he goes at night, the smell wakes me up...Haha. Attached File(s)

Perhaps ask at the local vets if they know of a professional groom parlour for cats that is local to you. The vets will probably clip him if you go that route.
Re his tummy - the food you are feeding is sounding good but the stool situation is not....I do think you need to take him to the vet as it sounds like he has had a parasite since tiny. I have no idea which one but if he had access as a kitten to water that birds may have frequented and pooped in he could have Coccidiosis....and this would require treatment. The Vet should be able to get a stool sample analysed - maybe if you can capture a fresh sample you could take it to him. There are various reasons that blood appears in stool - sometimes from straining with hard stools, sometimes parasites etc. |

Thanks so much! He doesn't have contact with birds or their water, he has his ceramic dish inside and the shower run off (which god knows he loves more than life itself)
I hope it's something easy fixed! Little bugger... Right, that's my week set, trying to trap a cat poop.... WHAT JOY. Thanks Heather! That's wonderful! |

Well Stephen always happy to help.....lol
You could ring your vet and ask first if you manage to collect a poo sample is that needed - they may have other suggestions. |

It's Steph! Sorry! My uninventive username fails me! Haha.
I'll give them a ring, that does sound easier than booking him in for a bunch of tests to find out the same info! |

Sometimes loose stools and blood in them can be food related. I had that with a Persian once and when I changed his dry food the problem was solved. Perhaps it would be worth trying him just meat for a day or two and see if that changes anything? As far as grooming goes, perhaps he needs a hygiene cut, that should stop anything from sticking when he goes to the toilet.

Lesleys thought also might just be true....Steph...given the foul smell......and trying meat beef strips for a day or so might sort it.......but vet advice is good if that does not work.
Sometimes it is trial and error until we get to the "bottom" of things...excuse the pun. |

I thought that may be the case too, I give them just people mince from the supermarkets for dinner, so have previously tried that but that ended in constipation, which is just as much of a joy!
Poor thing, he doesn't seem too phased but really, it can't be fun. I'm looking to get the lot off, we live in a littler flat with no aircon, just a fan, which suits me and Hector fine, but even in 25+ degree heat he just looks a misery. I got him one of those cooling mats too, but would rather just lop it off as he's indoors anyway! |

Hi Stephen
Have you tried to give them dry food (Hills Science Diet I/D)? This resolve the problem I had with my little one when he had blood in his stools. |

Yeah, I have. They have tried many different diets and the problem persists, however only in one cat.
Also, My name really is Steph! Honest! |
