I'm having some problems with my cats and was hoping for some advice or something?
So I have three cats, one 9 month old kitten, a 9 year old cat and a two year old cat. Recently, we've been finding "Accidents" around the house, and they've never happened before. I'm thinking it's my kitten, because the other cats have never done it before, but the 9 year old one might be doing it too. They've been going right outside the cat little box on a rug, so we got rid of it, now they're doing it outside the place where the cat litter box is. Our kitten, which we raised since she was about 5 weeks old, always had trouble with the cat littler box (She used to not go when her last potty break was still in there, and she'd eat the cat litter) do you think I need to get another cat litter box? No one in my family has figured out who's going yet, but if it's the kitten my parents said they'll have to give her away if she can't be trained to use the box again. Please help! (Again, sorry if this doesn't belong here, this is the only place I know to look for help) |

Hi there.
Some cats seem to be more fussy than others when it comes to litterboxes.. for example..my cat penny..she is happy to use the litterbox providing its scooped out once daily...where as my parents cat boof, expects his lotterbox to be spick and span everytime he uses it or he will choose another location...maybe one of your cats have developed the same standard as my parents cat lol..how often do you scoop the litter? This could possibly be the reason...Also some cats dont like using the same box as another one..so yes maybe adding anotherrr litterbox might help too ps..also the spot outside the box needs to be cleaned to remove any past smells..im not sure on what product needs to be used..but im sure someone here has more knowledge on that then me..and will be along at some point to fill you in...if the cats can smell the spot where they have gone before...chances are they will keep using that spot. Penny did that at one stage...i was lazy and just slid the litterbox over the top of where she would go..no issues since..i ofcourse cleaned all past accidents thrououghly as i could first lol |

@ciqqqqq: Yeah, my mom got a new litterbox and they're using it. It gets scooped once a day.
Lol My parents already used something to clean it up. |

Lol ok so its not that then i guess lol one of the cats could be stressed about something? Any changes happen lately? Move, new person at the house, any other animals..how dothe cats treat eachother? One of the older cats could be "being mean" to the kitten...or something could have scared one of the cats while they were in the box..which may have made it too stressed to keep using.ok so thats all the ideas i have lol although one other option could be medical...have the cats been taken for a check up lately? |

I'm not sure. Yes to the kitten being mean to, we can't stop my older cat (The 2 year old one) from beating her up and hurting her (I love her, but she's had my kitten screaming to be let go) They've had a check-up about or month or two ago

The first thing you must do is completely clean up where the naughty one has been going using an enzyme based cleaner. Not sure where you are but here in Australia Biozet is the preferred choice of most. Unless this is done, although you might not be able to smell anything the cat will & assume this is the place to go & if one has gone there one of the others will as well to mask the smell of the first one & scent it for their own. If it is stress related it might pay to try a relaxant , such as Fleiway or even Bach Rescue Remedy. If it's the kitten it may pay to re-train. ie put her in one room with a tray, bed & food & show her the tray until she/he gets it right.

It may be that the kitten is afraid to settle and poo , so she races in does it quick as possible and races out in case of an ambush by the bully ..grin
I'd set up 2 or 3 litter trays in different areas so there is a safe tray ..maybe even try a covered tray so there is security in being "hidden" Overnight ..keep the little one in a secure room ..a nice clean litter tray ,food and water and a nice warm bed ..once she's using the tray regularly ..and you KNOW she only likes a clean tray so that's important.. Some cats will poo in one tray and wee in another too ..so watch and wait, you'll soon see a pattern. -------------------- I could be unstoppable if I could just get started.
