I bought our pedigree ragdoll kitten home may this year and we adore her but in the time we have had her we have had her to the vet repeatedly for both a Urinary Tract Infection and a sore back that causes her to limp.
While the UTI seems to have cleared up the vet is concerned in regards to some unusual cells in her latest sample and her back requires daily pain relief and we are organizing x-rays.

I am very concern as one reason I chose to get Ragdoll is they are meant to be a hardy breed but my girl is barely 10 months and having fortnightly trips to the vet to get regular medication.

Would i be out of line to ring the breeder and notify her of these problems?
I love Epona dearly but i always get upset when I have to take my animals to the vet and to have had to take her regularly for the past 3-4 months is really heartbreaking. thanks for any advice

I am sorry you are having so much trouble with your Ragdoll.

Actually I think it is important that you do contact the breeder....not to acuse them of anything untoward but to see if they can show any light on the problem - they may not be able to do so but most breeders if they are approached nicely want to offer some form of support.

Breeders also get upset when their kittens are having a hard time....maybe they will have a suggestion that would help find a solution for your girl.

I hope you get to the bottom of your little girls problems.

thanks Heather, i'll send the breeder an email tomorrow.

To be honest that was my main concern that i would come across as accusing Epona's breeder when I just wanted to advise her that one of her kittens is having some problems.

Overall our lovely girl is happy and healthy, she still loves to play, eat and sleep then play some more as most kittens do. She currently has a few problems that we need to solve to make her 100% again and we will do everything in our power to do so

our cats are 100% indoor and Epona's biggest stress in life is when we forget to fill her dry food in the mornings lol.

Our Vet diagnosed her with a UTI after taking urine samples. He thinks it has cleared up but he did mention that it might not be just a UTI and want us to keep an eye on her just incase.
As for her back he first suggested it could be a strain from playing and gave her some anti-inflammatories and pain killers. But now he is organizing X-rays as it has not gotten any better. He has linked her back problems to an irregularity in her spine. when i run my fingers i can actually feel it and when i touch the area.
He is not sure what it is could be a slipped or bulging disk he is not sure at this stage which is why he wants x-rays.

To be honest I am not 100% sure how long she has had it. early on I didn't really notice her limp. I saw it but rarely and no one else saw her do it and her knees and hips weren't sore so I left her be. She also still plays and jumps and is extremely active so I had no reason to think she was in pain.
Then my mother came to visit a month later and she was patting Epona, when she swung round and bit my mum. Both my mum and I ran our fingers over her spine and at the same spot she tried to bite us both.

The spot that she is saw feels like the gap between her disks is bigger, some days she is fine and wont react when i check her back other days she has drawn blood to make me stop touching her back. She has been a lot happier since the vet put her on pain killers daily but the vet is still unsure what caused it at this stage which is why he wants x-rays. my biggest concern is her age if she was 10+ years i could understand she might have problems but a 10 month old kitten should be pain free and enjoying life not relying on pain killers for comfort cry.gif
