I just had the most horrible situation. Joined a forum and my golly such an unfriendly and unwelcoming response (and from their moderator I might add). So please be kind :))))

I in the past 25 yrs have adopted about 6 purebred Burmese Tonkinese, Oriental adult cats. Only ever have 2 or 3 at a time and always keep them till their forever happens sad.gif .

These poor cats were unwanted and their living situations tenuous. Most I got the papers and vet records not that it matters I just love the beauty and known temperament of the pure bred breeds. After initial teething problems some a few weeks others a few months they have fallen in love with me and me them biggrin.gif

I adopted a 6 yr old Burmese 3 weeks ago from a sad situation where the 50 yr old (so young Im not far off that myself!) had a spinal stroke and is permanently in a nursing home now....after a long stay in hospital.

Miles is a lovely cat but is still scared, its little steps - little steps...... he jumps on my bed for a pat now and greets me when I watch close to her window sill (she has claimed my window sill in my bedroom). Its all short though and no curling up and snoozely wanting my pats or sleeping on my important paperwork...How can I encourage this I love smoochers, sooky noisy follow me around cats.... I live at home 24 7 as I run my busineess from home....

I think she may not be a burmese but may be a Russian Blue. She is EXTREMELY dark slate not like a blue nuetered stud cat I had for 15 yrs. She is bigger than any Burmese I have had but is that 'heavy' type cat. Her eyes are goldygreeny. Her coat seems to have a short hair next to a longer (not persian long I dont mean this) hair. Her face looks Burmese. She isnt clown like but its early days and she does play with her frayed rope toy a little.

Im very excited and would like to chat about her! What is a Russian like? Perhaps shes Russian/ Burmese....what is the darkest Burmese bluewise. I was VERY surprised when I saw her and I now have had a sable, a blue, a lilac.......

I have dismissed Chartuese and British blue shorthair but Korat now seems very likely or Russian but not Burmese. Still researching.....

We'd need a picture..grin

definitely need a piccy, as for the other, I am sure she will come around, adults do take a bit longer, and she has had a few changes by the sounds of late. If you have her around you, and talk to her, I am sure she will come to realise you aren't that bad, and before long, you will be moving her off the keyboard as you work

I found this great site called Which blue it that? FANTASTIC!!!
It has many photos af Korat British Russian and Chartuese.
It has head profile shots of all 4 next to each other,
Nose comparison shots,
Eye comparison shots,
Ear comparison shots,
And overall body comparison shots.
Miles hopped on my bed and was most pleased to be the centre of attention.

Well in the end shes a Korat, I looked up the Australian breeders and there isnt many listed BUT there is one in the very suburb she was rescued from.

This morning I contacted the rescuers who went and saved her at the old owners house - she had been fending for herself outside and fed by a neighbour for 3 mths. The owner who never came out of the hospital back home but went to a Queensland nursing home (family all up there) told the rescuers that her expensive purebreed was there - please save it. They kept it for her until indeed they found out the owner was not coming out at all.......they assumed not being cat people at all it was a Burmese because it was blue and a couple of lay people said "Its Burmese".

I knew it wasnt Burmese from the first moment I saw it as I had prevously rehomed a champion Blue Stud boy and a Lilac and features were just all wrong, the blue was too dark, eyes were wrong too....face is heart shaped....

Im so very excited! I now have a Burmes and Oriental and a Korat its a rainbow cat family!!!!

Does anyone have a korat .... What are they like????????
Rachelle
We fostered a beautiful cat for the RSPCA. I did investigations and discovered she was a korat.

She was very timid at first but eventually came out of her shell, we fostered her for over a year to get her happy and confident. Then I found her a fantastic home where she was the only cat and became queen of the house and came out of her shell completely.

She was playful and a character, but that took time and patience as with all rescues.

Thank you for taking this girl in and giving her a home, I'm sure she'll blossom eventually :)

The poor girl's had a rough time of it, that's for sure.

I agree that pics are a must!

By the way, welcome to the forum :)

Hi......have just come across your post, and wanted to let you know that I have korat,
and one of the big differences of this breed is that they only have one layer of fur and not two,
so when you said that you could see long fur next to the short, it made me think that your cat couldīt
be a korat. Of course it could well be a cross.
My cat is a dark grey like you said....but when you stroke him itīs like touching velvet. He likes being in the same room as us, and may sit next to us...but very rarely does he sit on top of anyone...only when itīs
cold, only having the single layer of fur of course. When they are young they have yellow eyes and at maturity they change to green. Mine is very bossy and likes to be in charge, our other animals donīt stand a chance.. They are a wonderful breed and am totally enamoured of ours...
Anyway, hope this to be of use...although a bit late.
